Napa Valley Appelation (Coombsville)

86% Cabernet Sauvignon

14% Cabernet Franc

Winemaking Notes

This is our fourth vintage of “District 4” Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged for 18 months in 75% new oak leaving it with an aroma of vanilla, gingerbread, spice and cream. I added a substantial amount of Cabernet Franc to this year’s blend because I liked the spice it added to the nose. The Cabernet Franc also added a hint of earthiness to the palate while still allowing the fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon to shine through. Fine tannins and flavors of blackberry and cedar round out the finish of this food friendly wine.

100% Napa Valley (Coombsville)

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaking Notes

This hillside vineyard is located between Caldwell and Porter Family in Eastern Napa. It is at about 600’ elevation with volcanic rocky soil. This vineyard produces unusually high acid grapes each year. Aging in 100% new oak barrels (a mix of Hungarian and French) gives this wine a distinctive maple, clove and vanilla characteristic. The wine has blackberry on the palette with fine tannin and a long finish.

Fermented on the lees, stirred weekly for 4 months.
No ML fermentation

This second vintage of PRIME Chardonnay comes from the 25 year old vines of the Berry Lane Vineyard in Napa’s Coombsville district. The wine was made in a fairly unusual style: 33% New oak, 33% neutral oak and 33% stainless steel fermentation. To preserve the natural acidity, the wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. The result is a Chardonnay that has an unusually crisp acid profile yet has the flavors associated with barrel fermentation.
